OVERSIGHT COMMITTEES
  • Yelm School District found success in establishing two committees that report to the school board.
    • Facilities and Construction
    • Financial
  • The board appointed committees reported to the school board once a quarter on the progress within their respective areas and the work of the school district, architect, contractors, money managers, etc.
  • Recommend the district advertise now for interested persons.  The board should consider applicants by
  •     April 26, 2006.

EDUCATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS COMMITTEE(S)
  • A separate committee for each school site.
  • The architect recommendation is that the optimum committee size is 20-25 members.
  • The core, voting, membership should be school staff with community members and students.
  • The committee should also make a presentation to the public.
  • The Facilities and Construction Oversight Committee should over watch the Ed. Spec Committee work.

HIGH SCHOOL
 ED. SPECIFICATIONS COMMITTEE
  • Principal forming the committee.
  • Initial meeting during week of April 3, 2006, approximately 1.5 hours in length.
  • Tentative community meeting May 13, 2006,        9 a.m. - noon.

PROJECT MANAGER
  • Required by law on all projects in excess of $50,000.  Bonded, licensed and insured.
  • Chain- School Board, Superintendent, Project Manager, Architect.
  • Back office and worksite responsibilities.
  • Coordinates with superintendent, briefs oversight committees and school board as appropriate.
  • District will begin process of advertising, screening and selection.  Appointment should be made ASAP.

COORDINATION
  • Superintendent met with architect on site and CFW (via conference call) on March 21, 2006, to develop initial timelines and requirements.
  • Superintendent and business manager meet with CFW, architects and OSPI, (school construction) on March 30, 2006.
