EATONVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT

EATONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL RENOVATION

AND MODERNIZATION UPDATE

AS OF: June 21, 2006

The Project:

The $29 million dollar project modernizes classrooms to prepare students for 21st century careers or post high school education and training; expands school facilities such as the library, cafeteria, and computer labs; renovates outdated restrooms and deteriorating plumbing systems and makes necessary health, safety and campus access improvements; improves student access to computers and modern technology; provides energy efficient upgrades to heating ventilation, air conditioning and lighting systems and repairs roofing systems.

Financing:

Following the voters approval in March 2006, of $38.4 million dollars of general obligation school bonds, the Eatonville School District Board of DirectorÕs adopted a resolution on April 26, 2006, authorizing the sale of $29 million dollars of bonds to commence work on the high school.  On April 27th, the superintendent traveled to San Francisco to make presentations about our community to Standard and PoorÕs bond rating company, a bond insurance company and PiperJaffray, the company selected to sell our bonds to investors.  Following a very successful trip, the bonds were sold on June 7, 2006, and $29 million dollars was deposited into the districtÕs account at the Pierce County TreasurerÕs office.

Design:

Under the architectÕs (Erickson-McGovern) direction and guidance, the district assembled an Educational Specifications Committee (Ed Specs).  The committeeÕs role is to advise the architect on the staff, community and studentsÕ desires during the design process.  Committee members have met a number of times and visited other schools for school design ideas.  The minutes of the Educational Specifications Committee are located on the Eatonville School District website- click on the Hardhat.  The website also includes the June 15, 2006, graphic design proposals.  Call the district office to learn the next committee meeting date, time and location.
