Desired Services
Telephone Systems
As another "window to the students world" install telephones in class rooms
using existing wiring with modern technologies such as voice over IP.
Voice Mail
A voicemail system installed and setup including services such as delivery of
homework assignment information, school bulletins and other information
available 24 hours a day.
Video
Video conferencing installed in key locations in every school building. To be
used for distance learning. Where students can take part in interactive
discussions held at universities, company locations, and government facilities.
Students taking college-level courses without traveling to campus. Classes via
videoconferencing for teachers seeking an endorsement certificate. For students
to see and interact with each other and ask questions directly of the
instructor. For legislative outreach to encourage interaction between youth and
legislators, and to familiarize students with the legislative process. We will
build electronic conference rooms where our students will meet with local
legislators to discuss pending legislation.
Data
We want to increase our network bandwidth, both internally and our connections out to K20 and the Internet. Continue to update our email systems when appropriate and upgrade our network servers. Install new database systems for students, teachers, administrators and community members to access. These databases, in some cases to be readily available via the Internet, including topics ranging from curricula offered to school lunch menus and bus schedules. Student progress reports and other status information to be securely available to parents over the Internet. Increased use of multimedia software for advanced delivery of information.
Wiring
Category 5 cable runs to additional portable buildings and within buildings as needed.
Coaxial cable runs to additional portable buildings and within buildings as needed.
Network Standards
Migrate our network standard protocol to TCP-IP and eliminate other protocols that are creating excess network congestion.
Continue with installations of wireless networking systems.
District Wide Area Network
Build a seamless district network infrastructure for the transport of technology
services. Continue to maintain and enhance routers and the operating systems they use. Increased bandwidth for building to building access and connections out to K20 and the Internet. Add cable Internet access when needed and when available. Make building to building connections at our remote schools using fiber optic cable and WAN links at Ethernet speeds and above.
Setup and Management
Increased student and teacher training and involvement in setup and management
of core technology implementations. Teachers and students having ever increasing
roles in this aspect of technology will be key to its success.
