STAFF DEVELOPMENT

In order for technology to be successfully implemented across the district, teachers, administrators and support staff must have district-wide and building-level inservice opportunities available to them.

Training:

1. School technology team members will be trained to provide leadership and technical training.

2. Staff members will be provided with fifteen (15) hours of training in:

a. Introduction to networked systems

b. Using basic network software

Implementation will occur as soon as practical on a systematic basis taking into consideration current and future on-going district capital construction projects and specific site conditions and will be provided out of district capital and operating funds.

Goals:

Goal 1 Have a structured, developmental program in technology which
continues to expand technological literacy for students and staff.
Goal 2 Provide personnel and technological tools to implement and
support the district program in technology.
Goal 3 Provide flexible programs using technology for specific student and campus needs.

Teacher and Staff Training

This element of the infrastructure encompasses the necessary training of all teachers and staff. The classroom teacher is the most important factor in the full use of technology in the school. Therefore, the challenge of integrating technology with learning can be met only by staff members who are trained in its use. Daily use of technology in the classroom will not happen by accident; we must train teachers to enable it. Adequate training for teachers will be expensive, but failure to provide it will be more costly in the long run. If our current staff does not become technologically literate within the next few years, we may find ourselves unable to deliver the curriculum needed to prepare Eatonville School District's students for the world in which they will live and work. Accordingly, technology training should be neither a luxury in the Eatonville School District's budget nor an option.

The issues and items to be considered here include coordinating and planning of teacher training activities; training personnel; training individuals and groups; easy access to support personnel; adequate resources, time, encouragements, and incentives for staff training.

Staff Training Assessment

The effectiveness of our staff development training will be evaluated through:

1. Classroom observations
2. Questioniers (both student and staff)
3. Student assessment testing

Accountability ultimately falls in the hands of the administrative personel and the school board members. They will look over the process put in place to make sure we are keeping up with State and Federal standards and to ensure our students have adequate technological opportunities.

As part of the reviewal process. Staff training will be assessed every 6 months at a minimum.
